Footwork International Dance Organization launches cutting-edge website www.dance.lk and Fido Dance Club

Footwork International Dance Organization (FIDO), the Sri Lankan representative of the World Dance Council and Asia Dance Council, has officially unveiled their brand-new website www.dance.lk with enhanced features and wide-ranging information for all dance enthusiasts in the country.

The state-of-the-art, user-friendly website allows dance enthusiasts to connect and stay up-to-date with all the major dance-related events in the country. It also provides a host of useful information related to all aspects of dancing including a list of dance schools in Sri Lanka, upcoming competitions, workshops and events, past competition results and rankings, upcoming socials, examinations and results of the medallists, newsletter, box plan for dance events, online shop to purchase dance shoes and accessories and photo galleries.

Along with the website, FIDO launched a Dance Club with a membership open to all dancers and dance enthusiasts. FIDO Dance Club will be a community of dance lovers, who have the opportunity to meet up, share ideas, dance, socialize and simply enjoy each other’s company. It’s the first of its kind in Sri Lanka and is a club of people who gather irrespective of which dance school they belong to.

Dharshan Wijesooriya – FIDO Founder and veteran dancer, dance teacher, examiner and organizer of many dance competitions and shows in Sri Lanka stated, “We are excited about the launch of the brand new FIDO website with loads of useful features for the dance community. Also, the launch of a unique club for dancers in Sri Lanka is a momentous occasion for the dance community in Sri Lanka.”

Dharshan was instrumental in gaining membership of the World Dance Council for Sri Lanka in 2011 and is a registered International Adjudicator of WDC. Having started his dance school in 1987, Dharshan has taught thousands of students during the past 3 ½ decades. He is also a dance examiner and holds fellowship in United Kingdom Alliance and International Dance Teachers Association (UK). To date, he has organized 26 competitions for all of which he invited International Adjudicators for added stature, including several well-known World Latin American Champions. As an International Adjudicator he has officiated at over 150 international competitions in 16 countries.

The Footwork International Dance Organization was founded in 2014 by Dharshan Wijesooriya. FIDO promotes Dancesport and social dancing in the country and is committed to providing dancers with ample opportunities across multiple areas. Embracing the role of the Sri Lankan member and representative for World Dance Council and Asia Dance Council, FIDO boosts Dancesport (Ballroom and Latin American dancing) in the country by educating and promoting the sport. It grants World Dance Council recognition to dancers, dance instructors and adjudicators, provides opportunities for dancers to develop skills, attitude and qualities necessary by way of workshops and lectures, organizes and facilitates professional and student examinations for dancers and instructors, conducts International, National and Regional Dancesport competitions and puts together dance socials for dancers and the general public to enjoy and participate in dancing.

As a start of a series of workshops, FIDO has organized a Dance Bootcamp on 7th December 2022 at the Royal MAS Arena where a total of 4 workshops will be conducted by reputed dance instructors in Sri Lanka.
